I just installed the latest Wikidot 1 package and it tripped over a typo in /var/www/wikidot/lib/ozone/php/core/functions.php on line 147 when creating a new site:

$dir = preg_replace(';/$', '', $dir);

should be:

$dir = preg_replace(';/$;', '', $dir);

A semi-colon was missing after the $ sign.

I like to use the browsable SVN link to see what changes are submitted with new builds. The link hasn't worked in a while. Is it no longer being used or is something else broken?

The fact is, it has nothing to do with Flash; the same results happen trying to embed a DHTML menu into a wikidot page. The iframe will have a white background in IE6 covering up the entire section of the page where the menu extends. It is apparent that some modification would need to be made to wikidot's handling of the iframe declaration; they need to make it possible to pass the allowTransparency attribute.

Additionally, this means that if, for some reason, you have a non-white background on your wiki pages and you embed some content with iFrame, it will always have a white background in the iFrame area with IE6, whereas you can get transparency with other browsers.

Sorry, I sort of stopped paying attention to this and searched for a different solution. You can now see at my wiki that I have a menubar that looks sort of the way I wanted the flash one to look (by modifying the CSS).

The fact is, I tried for days to make it work in IE6 and it is apparent that some modification would need to be made to wikidot's handling of the iframe declaration; they need to make it possible to pass the allowTransparency attribute.

So I've removed the sandbox page, but all the code necessary to try the example is available up above it you should want to experiment with it on your own wiki.

It does not work well in Linux Firefox 3.0 as well.

It's all black with menu on the top.

Dealing with transparent Flashes IS always a bad choice (from my experience).

(this is a posting of a message that I posted at wikidot.com, I'm sort of desperate…)

I am trying to insert a flash generated menu bar in the top of my wiki site. I am using iframe to do it, and it works perfectly on Safari, Firefox, and IE 7. You can see it here on this test page, under the top graphic (there is also still the normal wiki top menu bar as well, which I would remove later):

It uses swfobject.js with a setting of wmode = transparent to embed the flash menu bar, inside the html file that is [[iframed]] (source is included below).

The problem is that in IE6, the iframe is NOT transparent, it has a white background, completely covering the page for about 300 pixels down.

If I use the "IE DOM Inspector" plug-in in IE6 to "live edit" the html being displayed, the only thing that works is to add allowTransparency="true" to the tag. Instantly, the iframe is transparent and it works as expected.

However, there seems to be no way to actually influence the setting of this from within wikidot, or from the CSS sheet. allowTransparency seems to be an html only parameter, and it is not one of the ones that wikidot allows to be set using [[iframe]]. As you can see from the source below, I try to set it in multiple different places in the CSS file and the wiki source, just for the heck of it.

Any way to get around this? I'd really like to use this flash top menu, but if it can't work on IE 6, I think I have to bag it. Sad, after spending like two days figuring out how to get this far. Here's my source:

Problem with global IP block list for wikidot.com: Problem with global IP block list for wikidot.com

The co-administrator of one of my wikis seems to have been suddenly blocked from all access to anything to do with Wikidot.com about 2 hours ago (as of this timestamp). I fear that perhaps his IP address might have been added to the Global IP Block List mentioned in our sites Site Manger pages, but there seems to be no way to check the Global IP Block List.

This person is in no way, shape, or form a spammer of any sort. I've advised him to send an email to your support address, but in the future is there some way to troubleshoot issues like this by checking whether somebody has been added to the Global IP Block List before bothering Wikidot support?

More information on this problem. I had my partner do a traceroute from his computer, and compared it to a traceroute from my own computer (I can successfully see all of wikidot.com, but he cannot).

It looks like your wikidot.com servers are hosted by some 3rd party datacenter in Dallas, TX, USA. In my successful traceroute to our specific wiki URL, the destination machine is as2-1.s.wikidot.com, and the router immediately before it is po1.fcr03.dal01.dallas-datacenter.com. (And there are a few more dallas.datacenter.com router hops before those last two.)

In my partner's traceroute, he's getting 100% packet loss at the next hop immediately after po1.fcr03.dal01.dallas-datacenter.com, which means his ping packets (and all other packets, apparently) are being rejected by as2-1.s.wikidot.com. But all my packets, including ping packets, are getting through to that server just fine.

This would seem to conclusively indicate that either his specific IP address or perhaps a subnet address that contains his specific IP address is being globally blocked by wikidot.com. He's on a Verizon network in New Jersey, USA. Did you recently add some Verizon subnet to your Global IP Block List to deal with some spammer originating from that network?

I'm having problems trying to get the site backup Cron job to run without error.

Using Webmin (a slick tool! http://www.webmin.com/), I was able to pull some error messages.
First message:

 Output from command /var/www/wikidot/bin/job.sh HandleBackupRequestsJob .. /var/www/wikidot/bin/job.sh: line 20: cd: /var/www/www.wikidot.com/wikidot/bin : No such file or directory /var/www/wikidot/bin/job.sh: line 21: . /job.php: No such file or directory

I'm not sure why the path includes www.wikidot.com, but after removing it, I get past that error and then got this error:

 Output from command /var/www/wikidot/bin/job.sh HandleBackupRequestsJob .. ./job.php: line 1: ?php: No such file or directory ./job.php: line 3: /bin: is a directory ./job.php: line 4: syntax error near unexpected token `(' ./job.php: line 4: ` * Wikidot (Community Edition) - free wiki collaboration software'

This is where I'm a bit stuck. I looked at the job.php file, but haven't been able to figure what needs to be edited to fix things. I have not been able to track down where the variable names are set.

Has anyone else run into this one? If so, can you help me fix it?

I had this issue with my first couple of early installs. It was a permissions issue with the Wikidot psql database. See this thread:

I have not had that problem for a long time (and I have done numerous installs while testing my scripts). Did you download the package from the "Get Wikidot" page, or use one of the guides and download the most current code from the SVN repository? The "corresponds to revision 12" package is old - I would not use it.

Look at the "howto" I wrote, particularly the "Configure PostgreSQL" section. That should fix your login issue.

After some hours we managed to install wikidot.
The problem appears to be the first login

You have been inactive quite long while trying to log in and your session data have expired. Please try to click 'log in' once again.

We have checked in the php/actions/LoginAction.php and indeed the $seed is empty.
In the file php/screens/login/LoginIframeScreen.php
after the seed is added the command $runData->sessionGet("login_seed"); gives the right seed.

That's a bummer, Davide.

Unfortunately, I can't offer any help since I'm very new to this stuff. I've been able to fumble around and figure a few things out, but recompiling libraries from source files is not something I know how to do yet.

Hopefully Michal or others will be able to help. I haven't see any activity from the developers in a few days. I think they are busy whooping it up at an open source convention! ;)

Ok, changed OS. Now is Ubuntu 7.10.
And I also changed the guide, which is now the easier one.

This time no errors until I have to run the first script:

. /var/wdsetup/wd1_setup1.bash

After this point the system will freeze irreparably sooner or later before the script finishes its tasks. Ten times I reinstalled the OS, no way: frozen. Always at some point while unpacking or installing packages.

I suspect it's simply because of the java interface to manage the VPS, but I'm not that sure about it.

PS: Confirmed, therefore if you want to use some VPS don't rely on the java interface they will give you but use you own SSH client. Mac OS X for example has an integrate SSH client accessible this way:

1- Start the Terminal application
2- Type ssh -l yourusername yourserverIP
3- When the notice regarding "The key for this host has never been seen before." appears, accept and save the key.
4- Enter your password

Unfortunately this doesn't solve the next problems, but at least the interface stops freezing while you're working on it

I also wrote to the server provider support (VPSlink) and this is the reply:

Installing X on a VPSLink 1 would be a pretty bad idea, and some image
manipulation libraries can use portions of it, but with package
managers, they are usually built with the X11 libraries. You should
compile imagemagick from source, not using the X libraries.

Well-timed but totally incomprehensible for me and nothing encouraging.
Any suggestions?

Found and Fixed

I just found another bug and tracked down the typo and fixed it :)
This one would cause a fatal error when trying to edit an existing forum post.

In the file /var/www/wikidot/templates/modules/forum/sub/ForumEditPostFormModule.tpl there is a missing "$" in a variable on line 20:

 {t}Need help? Check the{/t} {t}documentation{/t}.

After adding the $ to "href="{$URL_DOCS}" the problem was solved.

Can someone update the wikidot1 SVN trunk folder with this fix also?
(Sorry, even if I have permission to upload code, I don't know how)

I just tracked down this bug and fixed it.

In the file /var/www/wikidot/php/utils/Indexer.php there is a small typo on line 118:

 $ie->setVector("setweight( to_tsvector($title'), 'C') || setweight( to_tsvector('$description'), 'C') || to_tsvector('".db_escape_string($text)."')", true);

After adding an ' to "to_tsvector('$title')" the problem was solved.

Can someone update the wikidot1 SVN trunk folder with this fix?

I actually have 2 installs running - one on a server at home using DynDNS's dynamic DNS service to redirect HTTP port 80 to my server at home so I can hit it from the outside world. The other one at work is on a static IP I have available from our ISP. Both installs are working pretty well. I'm using Ubuntu 7.10 on both servers. I don't know if using one of my "home install" guides (in the howto section) will work well with a service like VPS, but it's certainly worth a shot.

If you can get it to work, you should write a howto so others can do the same who might not have the extra hardware available to set up their own server.

My next nerdy project will be to try setting things up a Virtual machine.

You know what? I'll give Ubuntu a try hoping to be as lucky as you.
I just got a VPS on vpslink.com which allows me to change OS whenever I want. Obviously this deletes all my previous files but I'm not going to lose that much considering the poor progress I made… ;)

As far as I know you have a home network installation, maybe that's different from mine, isn't it?

I'll definitely keep you posted, this is going to be a hard nerdy week!
